In the depths of Coronavirus and finding myself homeschooling my children, I’ve been looking for various resources to help keep them learning while they’re home. My kids that are in elementary school have tasks assigned to them each day that they complete and turn in online. But I find that my younger son, who is in preschool, gets a little bored and sometimes feels a little left out when his siblings have learning to do and he doesn’t. So I’ve been looking for educational resources for preschoolers that help him learn too. I also give the kids a small prize (candy or small toys from Oriental Trading) when they complete their work, so he wanted to make sure he got some too. 🙂
ABC Mouse
We’ve been using ABC Mouse for a while now for my kindergartner and preschooler and they both love it! There’s interactive games that teach them the alphabet, site words, and letter sounds. They also teach math, science, and colors. The kids are motivated by the tickets they get after each activity which allows them to buy pets and accessories for their avatar. The app is for children ages 2-8 and you can have 3 kids profiles on it at a time. There is a monthly fee, but you can get 30 days free!
Busy Toddler
Busy Toddler is a great website run by a former teacher and mom with ideas to help your kids learn through different educational activities. She even just came out with a simple homeschool preschool program with 190 days of at-home learning. How awesome is that?!
All About Reading
I have found some great free resources to help kids learn their alphabet at All About Reading. One of my son’s favorites is the ABC Play dough mats. You print the letters out and they can make the letters out of play dough. I love to grab a few things of play dough every so often at the store, but you can also make a ton of different kids like this cloud dough.
Epic!
If you can’t make it to the library or they’re closed, Epic! is a great resource for reading to your kids. They have books categorized by age so you can find the ones your kids will like.
Kids Activities Blog
I’ve been following this website for a long time and they have great ideas for kids to learn and play. I especially love their letter match game with Easter eggs and they also have a huge list of educational companies that are offering free subscriptions.
Art for Kids Hub
If your kids likes to draw, this is a great free resource that teaches kids step by step drawings on YouTube. My 4 year old got a little frustrated that he couldn’t quite draw it, but my kindergartner loves it! So if your kid is 4 or 5 and older, this is a fun activity for them. He has some really fun tutorials like Pokemon characters, Frozen II characters, Sonic the hedgehog, holiday drawings and more. He does it side by side a kid which I love because he encourages them along the way.
Exercise
Two fun exercise or “PE” resources for kids are Cosmic Kids and Go Noodle. Cosmic Kids is a yoga and mindfulness website. My sister’s kids really enjoy this. My kids are a little more high energy and they prefer Go Noodle. Go Noodle has fun and silly videos to dance and exercise to.
Zoo Live Feeds
Many zoos around the US have live feeds to their animals’ habitats. I’m especially partial to the San Diego Zoo since I grew up near there, but you can look at your local zoo’s website and see if they have live camera feeds as well.
Cook With Your Kids
My kids love to be in the kitchen and help me make yummy treats. They love to help measure and pour and just sit on the counter and watch the mixer go! I have lots of delicious desserts you can find on my blog. And here’s a fun popsicle recipe that your kids can help you make!
