Kami turned 3 this weekend! And when I asked her what kind of party she wanted, she asked for a princess party. So we had a little themed princess portion of her party after we went to an indoor pool. She had a blast!
And of course we needed a
Princess Birthday Cake!
Here’s what you need:
1 box of yellow cake mix (with oil. eggs, water)
food coloring
sprinkles
cupcake gems
letter template (I had magnetic letters)
birthday crown
Here’s how to make it:
Start by making the cake as directed on the box. Split the batter equally in two different bowls. Then I added pink food dye to one of the bowls and purple food coloring to the other. Bake as directed on the box.
It will look like this when you’re done!
Let the cakes cool slightly and remove from the pans. Allow them to cool completely on wire racks.
Make the homemade frosting and add pink food coloring. When the cakes are completely cooled, layer some frosting on top of one of the cakes. Then place the second cake on top.
Then put frosting around the entire cake. Then I used tip #18 to make 3 layers of zig zags around the sides of the cake.
To decorate the top, I placed the crown on the cake where I wanted it to go. Then I placed the magnetic letters on the cake to use as a stencil. I sprinkled sprinkles around the letters so you could see each letter. I found that my frosting had hardened too much for the sprinkles to stick, so I sprayed a tiny bit of water with a spray bottle to get them to stick.
Then I sprinkled and placed the cupcake gems around the crown.
And there you have a beautiful princess cake complete with purple and pink layers! We threw on some trick candles too since our daughter and her cousins love blowing out candles so much. 🙂
Happy Birthday to our sweet Kami!
