Yesterday evening I had 10 minutes of complete chaos! My days usually aren’t like this, but sometimes I have moments where I just cannot even believe all that is going on. It’s those times where I stop and think to myself, Seriously???
So I just wanted to share my 10 minutes yesterday where that’s exactly what happened.
This happened earlier in the day when the girls wanted to paint and I was trying to nurse my baby. Silly me for trying to multi-task!
It started at 5:00 pm when I started making dinner. Somehow Clo (my almost 2 year old) has a little internal timer that goes off right at 5 when I’m starting to make dinner. And she just wants me to hold her. Well I can’t hold her if we ever want to eat so she just cries at my feet yelling, “Mommy, mommy!” and has her arms raised so I’ll pick her up. But I can’t…
I hear little Nate (my now 3 week old) getting cranky in his bed. Luckily I just fed him so it’s not because he’s hungry. So at least I won’t have to stop everything to nurse him for 20 minutes. He probably just wants some snuggles. But that’s going to have to wait for a few minutes. I have got to get these lasagna roll ups in the oven so they can cook and we can eat at a reasonable time and so my husband doesn’t have to starve to death when he gets home from work.
So I have two criers.
As I’m trying to scrape out the last of the filling for the roll ups, the bowl slips out of my hand and lands on the plate holding the chicken and the plate SHATTERS! I’m not talking cracks or breaks into a few pieces…it completely shatters! All. Over. The counter and floor are covered in little porcelain shards. Luckily Clo was crying a little farther away from me and wasn’t where the sharp pieces were.
This is when the Seriously??? thought came.
So I checked the pan of the lasagna roll ups I had already made to make sure none of the plate shards had gotten into it. Luckily they didn’t. So I tossed out the last roll up because it was covered in broken plate, poured the tomato sauce on the made lasagna rolls, sprinkled them with cheese, and threw them in the oven. I hand Clo my phone and tell her to go play some games on the couch for a few minutes. No complaints there. And the crying stops. I couldn’t do this before because I needed my phone to look at Pinterest for the recipe.
The plate mess is going to have to wait a minute. I go to get Nate and as I’m walking down the hall I look to my left and there’s Kami (my 3 year old) in the bathroom, with her pants pulled down to her knees. She’s standing next to the toilet where she had just gone poop and her fingers are wet with toilet water. Now, she’s been potty trained for a while so I have no idea why she was touching the toilet water.
So I wiped her bottom, pulled up her pants, and helped her wash her hands really really well. Then I finally got to little Nate and laid him on the floor near the kitchen where I could see him, but far from the broken plate mess. I get the kitchen completely cleaned, pick up Nate and sit on the couch for like 2 minutes and my husband finally gets home. He’s on salad duty because I am done!
Did I mention I hadn’t had time to shower yet and the house was a disaster?
At least they’re cute right?
So sometimes this is my life just after having my third child.
All in a days work!

Yikes! I think we can all relate to days like that! But then you look at their cute little faces and somehow it gets forgotten (even if that's only after they're finally asleep! lol!)

Haha! It often is after they've fallen asleep that it doesn't seem so bad. 🙂

Awwwww – They're so cute! And, the bright side is the shards weren't in your dinner (or in little feet)!!! I've been there, if it makes you feel any better! I hope today is stress-free! Julia

So true! It could have been much worse! It's nice to know other moms have been there too. 🙂
