I love the Proper Romance novels from Deseret Book, but I’ve read almost all of them now. So when I heard about the new book To Warm a Wintered Heart by Deborah Hathaway, I was excited to learn that someone is writing clean regency romances through other publishers as well! I can never get enough of good, clean, regency novels. It’s so fun to think about that time period and it also really makes me want to go to England! I told my husband that we need to go to Europe for our 20th wedding anniversary. So hopefully we’ll get there…in 13 years. 🙂
Anyway, I loved reading To Warm a Wintered Heart! Deborah Hathaway has a great way of immersing you right into the story. I got the flu over Christmas which was miserable, but I was glad to have a good book that could help get me through it. And I read the whole thing in just a few days. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened!
To Warm a Wintered Heart Synopsis
Gabriel Worthington is an eligible bachelor who recently became head of his estate after the death of his father and older brother. But their deaths cut him so deeply that he has sworn off marriage in order to keep his heart from ever being broken again.
Charlotte Rosebury is a naturally happy and positive young girl. When Gabriel and his mother come to stay with the Rosebury’s, Charlotte hoped to create a friendship with Gabriel, but instead she was met with frowns and avoidance. Both of them have experiences that have greatly affected their lives which brings them closer together. But it can also be the barrier between them forming more than a friendship.
Review
I love the characters in this book and you love Charlotte right away. And you’re curious about Gabriel and to see how his character develops throughout the book. There’s a natural flow and the little twists and turns make the story interesting. I do think at the end of the book that Gabriel’s character struggles with communicating his decisions which makes it a little frustrating. I was a little confused why he acted the way he did, but as you know with regency novels, it all works out in the end. You’ll just have to see how!
The writing, descriptions, and imagery are great! Both Charlotte and Gabriel are also witty and enjoy teasing each other which makes it fun to read. Oh and there’s also suspense in this book! Another aspect of the book that makes it interesting. I love that Charlotte is a strong woman and fights for herself when she needs to.
To Warm a Wintered Heart is right up there with my favorite Regency Romances and it’s definitely worth the read. You can find this book on Amazon and read more reviews on Goodreads.
