I love a good Proper Romance and they usually take place in 19th century England, but Sarah Eden’s books take place in the Wild West of the United States. And as much as I like to dream about privileged life amongst the British Lords and Ladies, I love reading about life in the United States too. It was rough, dirty, and not for the weak at heart. If you love reading about strong women, then you need to read The Sheriffs of Savage Wells by Sarah Eden.
The Sheriffs of Savage Wells
The town of Savage Wells is in need of a new sheriff. Men come from all around including the infamous Cade O’Brien who keeps bad men out-of-town just by saying his name. Tired of the violent life in lawless towns, Cade is ready to sheriff a small town where he won’t need to kill anyone to keep the peace.
Paisley Bell was working as an assistant sheriff to Savage Wells and did great work, although the Sheriff took all the credit. She’s strong, stubborn, determined, and good with a gun. She knows she can be a great sheriff. And besides that, she can really use the money to take care of her father who has Alzheimer’s.
With the bank in town receiving large amounts of money, a competition among the 4 remaining candidates includes Cade and Paisley to see who really is the best sheriff and who can take care of any potential bank robbers.
Being a Proper Romance, you know something evolves around Paisley and Cade (so I’m not giving away too much there), but will an old fiancée, a best friend, or capturing thieves get in the way of their affection for each other?
Western Proper Romance
I love how Sarah Eden creates the characters in this book. I feel like I really get to know the characters and picture this happening in a quiet town in Wyoming. Could you imagine old west Wyoming? With the terrible winters, limited medical knowledge, and no indoor plumbing? Or a time where women couldn’t be doctors or sheriffs or even vote? Even with the terrible circumstances, especially for women, there’s still something whimsical to me about the late 19th century – no social media and a simpler life. But most of the time I’m grateful for my very modern life. haha!
I love the gradual romance in this book. It’s very subtle, but it’s action packed with all the events that these law men and law woman go through. I was constantly surprised by Cade’s pieces of history that were unfolded throughout the book. You will definitely be rooting for Cade and Paisley to the end.
It was a fun, light read. I love how I can get through these books so quickly. I get so involved in the story that I can’t seem to put them down! Sarah Eden is a great author and I love her books! Here are the other reviews I’ve done for her as well. Definitely check these ones out as well!
You can find this book at Deseret Book and at Amazon or wherever you like to purchase books.
