As the leaves are changing color – Kami and I point out all the trees that are turning red and yellow – and as apple season is in full bloom – I made an apple pie Sunday that is amazing! – I decided it would be fun to incorporate these two things into some fall art for my 2 year old.
So we went in the backyard and picked up some leaves and cut a few slices of apples and got going!
I grabbed some construction paper that we have for the girls’ easel, so it was a pretty large piece of paper, but any size will work. First we put the leaves under the paper. Then with the side of a crayon, we colored the paper over the leaves to see imprints of the leaves. My daughter thought this was awesome! We used a few different colors to make it more vibrant.
Then I took a few slices of apples (cut the apple directly in half to get the seeds) and we painted them with acrylic paint and pressed them on the paper. It was so fun to get the apple shape! I found when the apple slices were thinner, the print turned out better.
My daughter loved painting the apple prints and she also felt it appropriate to munch on apples slices (clean, without paint) as well. And so did Clo who is a little young to paint since she would probably put it in her mouth… We also got a little creative and painted the leaves and around the leaves. Really anything goes!
Kami had a blast!
