I love designing kids rooms. I think it started with my own room when I was a kid. It was always how I wanted it – with some design ideas from my mom. I remember having a blue sponged wall with a picket fence headboard as a tween. Then I had a lime green room with flowers on the wall that I covered in pictures of my friends. So when it was time to decorate my daughter’s room, I asked what theme they wanted and they chose a Harry Potter girls room.
Harry Potter Girls Room
I love that my daughters have embraced the magic of Harry Potter. When I was a kid, I devoured those books. I think I read the 4th in 3 days. I couldn’t put it down! In college, I even stood in line at midnight at the bookstore for the 7th and final book of the series. I grew up with Harry Potter and I love that I can read them and watch the movies with my kids and that they love it too. So here’s what I came up with.
Mural Wall
Let’s start with my favorite part of the room. This wall! It just encompasses all things Harry Potter. My oldest daughter had a Harry Potter birthday party so I had some floating candles that we made. I hung the floating candles from the ceiling using white thumbtacks and clear string. I made some art and the Dumbledore quote using vinyl from our Cricut Maker. The show stopping painting of Hogwarts was painted by my dad! And the flying keys I made from vintage keys and vellum. The dresser also got a refresher coat of grey paint. This dresser was actually mine as a kid!
Mirror of Erised
This mirror is our ode to the Mirror of Erised. Do you remember the mirror from the Sorcerer’s Stone where you saw what you wanted most? Yes, that one. Now this mirror has a story. One day my husband was cleaning our bathroom mirror when all of a sudden, it FELL OFF THE WALL!!! Luckily my husband was standing there, but we were shocked. What do we do?! I hated how large it was in our bathroom where you could see everything… and wanted to replace it anyway, so I thought it would be fun to put it in the girls’ room. We framed it with wood that we spray painted gold and hung it up. I also added a shelf with the Harry Potter books, which you have to have in a Harry Potter girls room, and a triangle shelf that symbolizes the Deathly Hallows. Above the girls beds I put some cork boards so they can decorate them with their own pictures and drawings.
Beds
I have to give a little shout out to these beds. I’ve had my eye on Beddy’s bedding for a few years now. They’re a little pricey so they’re a bit of an investment, but they usually have coupons or sales to help with the price. In fact, if you order 4 or more you get an extra 10% off! Well I had 4 to buy so that was a nice little bonus. But these bedspreads are great because my kids’ beds are always made! They just zip up and you’re done! There’s also minky inside so it’s nice and soft to snuggle in. We LOVE these bedspreads. It’s so much easier for kids to make their beds this way. Especially my boys who have beds against their walls. You do have to wash them one at a time, so that takes a little time with 4 kids, but most people don’t have 4 kids so you probably don’t have anything to worry about. 🙂
Pop out
This side of the room I love because it has a little pop out that we painted a nice grey blue. It adds some bold color to the room. I found the curtains at Target. They’re covered in triangles which was perfect to match the triangle shelf. The Hedwig painting was also done by my dad. Isn’t he so talented? And then one of my daughters LOVES her stuffed animals., but I usually find them all over her room. So I bought these stuffed animal organizers to help keep them off the floor. Which works… some of the time.
And that wraps up the Harry Potter Girls Room. What do you think?! I love how it turned out! Are your kids Harry Potter fans too?
