Do you remember getting the same peanut butter and jelly sandwich every day in your lunch? I got so tired of them that I couldn’t eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for years! Seriously, years! I think it was in college I finally made myself one again and it was actually pretty good. If you make it with some homemade strawberry jam then it’s pretty good! I like to add a few fun things in my kid’s lunchbox so my daughter doesn’t get tired of her lunches every day.
Here are some fun thing to add to your kid’s lunchbox.
Musselman’s Squeezables Sours Apple Sauce
I usually put a regular applesauce in my kid’s lunch. But I recently started putting Musselman’s Squeezables Sours Apple Sauce in her lunch and she loves it! In fact, she showed it to the kids she sits by at lunch and everyone was excited that it was sour! I made she wasn’t sharing it with all the kids – she knows about germs. Haha! But they thought it was awesome. When I pulled these out as a snack, the neighbor girls all wanted some and they loved them too!
The new, great-tasting sour apple sauce (available in Sour Lemon, Sour Raspberry, and Sour Cherry) is only available from Musselman’s. It’s a healthy snack made without high fructose corn syrup and is GMO free. A lot of applesauces are packed with calories and sugar, but these aren’t which make them something I feel good about giving my kids. And this product is made with 100% American grown-apples.
I also love that they’re in a convenient on the go pouch that my daughter can easily open on her own. They’re also great for when you need a snack on the go and are typically mess free! Is there anything that truly isn’t mess free with toddlers around? They make messes out of EVERYTHING.
You can find Musselman’s Squeezables at many local grocery stores and they also have Strawberry, Honey Cinnamon, and Unsweetened. And here’s a coupon to use when you get some! There’s nothing better than trying a new product and getting a discount on it too! You can also check out their TV commercials for a fun inside look to the product.
Fun Note
When I was a kid, my mom would write me notes on napkins and put them in my lunch. She would draw pictures instead of words and I had to decipher what her note said. It was a fun way to let me know she was thinking of me and that she loved me. My daughter can’t read yet, but I drew her an I hear you note. You can also do smiley faces, holiday picture, or another little picture. It will make your kid’s lunch!
Sandwich Face
To go along with the little note, you can also draw a face on their sandwich bag. Kids love goofy things and a goofy face on their sandwich will be a highlight of lunch for sure.
Jokes
I’ve seen on Pinterest lots of kid’s lunchbox jokes that you can print and put in their lunch. This is something I want to do as my daughter gets a little older. It’s also a great way for them to start conversations with other kids at the lunch table and can be a tool to make new friends. There are some Halloween jokes from Artsy Fartsy Mama, Funny Jokes from Capturing Joy, and A Full Year of Jokes from 3 Baby Boys and a Business.
Fun Treat
I like to pack a fun little treat in my kid’s lunchbox. It can be a cookie or a baked treat we made or even a piece of candy. With Halloween around the corner, I know we’ll have plenty of candy around the house in no time. I put ours high in the cupboards so I can manage how much my kids eat.
We may still have Easter candy in our cupboard… I’ll throw it out when the Halloween candy comes in. That was always my goal as a kid – get my candy stash to last until the next candy holiday. I know, I’m weird.
Well I hope those ideas help add a little fun to your kid’s lunch!
